The Black Map will become famous soon enough
Re: The National - I Am Easy To Find (5/17)

Rylan came on today and it hit me that it sounds like "Please Forgive Me" by David Gray.

Not in Kansas is something else. Album has a real spiritual core.

I'm really loving it too. So damn good. What are everyone's favorites? Mine seem to change every day, always a sign of a great record for me.

Re: The National - I Am Easy To Find (5/17)

I'm very much enjoying the album, although, as is always the case, there are some tracks I could do without:

Rylan - Could never stand this song, doesn't fit on the album, is just a nothing song for me

Hairpin Turns - This album's Heavenfaced/Born To Beg, just boring, seems like no National album will ever be free of these sleepy little forgettable tracks again

MAYBE Hey Rosey - Jury's still out on this one, but like HT, it just feels lazy and by the numbers and uninspired to me

Besides these tracks, everything else is great. Really enjoying the quiet intensity of this one, and all the female guest parts really give an extra dimension to these songs. Love this band so much.

Wow, I love Hey Rosey. Gail Ann Dorsey's vocal is perfection. I love Rylan, but I'm not crazy about the album version really.

Quiet Light
Oblivions
Not In Kansas
Light Years
Rylan

Are all my highlights.

Really the only tracks I could do without are Dust Swirls and the 2 choral tracks. Everything else is perfect. Love this record.

Re: The National - I Am Easy To Find (5/17)

Pony.

Standout tracks Light years, Oblivions, Quiet light, Ryland, you had your sole with you.

The rest are pretty weak. Worst record of their collection imo.

The National's had it's foot in the "indie-classical" world for some time now and they've seemed to need to add that element on the records with the choral piece. I get it, but I agree, seems a bit forced.

I love most everything on the album, but favorites are Oblivions, The Pull Of You, Hey Rosey, So Far So Fast, I Am Easy To Find, and Light Years.

They blocked me on insta for suggesting it wasn't their best record. Oh well, guess I was correct.

Yeah, its not to say it can't work (in all honesty, I hope they lean into it more in the future). I really enjoy Dessner's classical stuff, but the album is already dense and long, it would be just fine w/o those tracks. Plus it may make people who think it doesn't feel like a National album feel like its a National album.
