Dissing Ryan Adams: An Emerging Songwriting Genre

Uh Oh.

http://niche-appeal.com/beating-up-o...writing-genre/

Long piece. Covers songs by Phoebe Bridgers, J. Isbell, Old 97s.

Re: Dissing Ryan Adams: An Emerging Songwriting Genre

Terrible article. A lot of those quotes are over a decade old. I stopped reading when they got to isbell and not knowing that he put out a Grammy award winning album last year that followed up a Grammy award winning album, except he put a RA “diss” track on it.

I’m not defending RA’s schtick, there’s just too much aloof pretension in that piece.

How on earth can you interpret Chaos and Clothes as a "bashing" of Adams?

What a weird piece. So much effort put into obscurity.

Pretty sure heís made amends with most of those artists and has apologized along the way.

Iím still a bit confused as to whether he and Phoebe Bridgers had a romantic relationship of which Motion Sickness is based on.

Regardless; bunk, click bait article in a realm where Iím not sure many people even care about clicking, lol.

I saw Phoebe live, and she introduced that song by saying "This song is about me and Ryan Adams and how I loved him and why I now hate him."

Didn't bother to read the article, but I can't say I'm surprised, the guy sounds like a real douche to everyone around him. Shouldn't be surprised when people fire back at him.

Re: Dissing Ryan Adams: An Emerging Songwriting Genre

geeez guys
not that bad of an article

some of the notable quotables:

Quote:
First lets visit some of the better RA disses over the past two beef-strewn decades:

Paul Westerberg: “I’d like to kick his fucking teeth in.”

Elijah Wood: “I love his songs. But sometimes I wish he wouldn’t talk so much.”

Liam Gallagher: “Fake troubadour”

Steve Earle: “If you start responding to the critics, one day you find you’re Ryan Adams.”

Britt Daniel: “It’s Ryan Adams, isn’t it? Yeah it sounds so like, ‘I wanna be a star!’ This new Ryan Adams record is not something I would ever listen to.”
and

Quote:
Jeff Tweedy: “I’m happy to let other people make that kind of Wilco record now, and there’s plenty of them doing it, like Ryan Adams.”

Leona Ness: We have to hand it to Leona, who once dated Adams, for originality. She actually created a t-shirt that read “My Ex Boyfriend Is A Wanker” and sold it on tour.

Janis Ian: “I expect a certain amount of narcissism in performers. I don’t expect complete and total self-absorption to the detriment of all those around you. Ryan is going to have to figure that out for himself, and I don’t envy the fall.”

Robbie Fulks: “I like Ryan. Of course, I like all drunk little pricks with warmed-over Seventies folk-rock acts.” Also, Robbie once offered his fans money for going to Ryan’s shows and heckling him, very much a rap beef move.

and lots more

Re: Dissing Ryan Adams: An Emerging Songwriting Genre

Right, and most of those quotes are 15+ years old.

It’s just a stupid article.

Looking at the site, most of the content is just lame snark. It’s not really that funny.

I'm so glad to have it confirmed that the Bridgers song is about him.

I'm not sure what your point is. But their point is still relevant: DRA is still a cunt. I don't see that changing soon. Hey, let's all laugh at his schtick, his "improv" songs, his backbends.... By the way, if any of that is out of date, I don't give a fuck... HE'S A CUNT!

I know, my website is abysmal. But you, Timothy Simons, you're an unfunny actor. You're an unfunny actor who actually looks a bit like DRA. Deal with that.
