Cat Popper on Let There Be Talk podcast

https://soundcloud.com/deandelray/45...ne-popper-bass

Dean is a former musician now comedian who does this podcast, mostly with musicians. He can be annoying as hell sometimes but he does know his music and he is a big Ryan Adams fan. He has mentioned on twitter often that Ryan is a dream guest of his.

I haven't listened to this yet but it should be interesting. He posted some photos on his instagram of him on stage singing with Jesse Malin's band which Cat is playing in these days.

Got to listen to it. Some pretty good damn Ryan talk in there starting around the 35 minute mark (I believe).

man, the host is *really* into talking about drugs. If you thought it got a bit repetitive with Marc Maron, this guy is like that, but on crack.

i don't think so. he just tried to get the real info about what was going on during those recordings. mr dra has always said he was sober when recording and got fucked up after. so i thought it was nice to hear the supposed true story of the drug use.

I really wanted to enjoy this, but didn't. He also backtracked regarding the stuff between Gold and Cold Roses.

I think Cat is interesting. But the interviewer was awful. Seems like every time she made a point he had to bring it back to himself. Oh well.

Re: Cat Popper on Let There Be Talk podcast

great to hear cat. she's awesome. genuine and the real deal. good person.

that interviewer was just all over the place and would interrupt and interject and talk about himself just a little too much. and not in a good way...and definitely not funny.

Any news on Ryan or The Cardinals? Did she say why she didn't join Ryan when called on The Cardinals earlier this year?

I dont think she had to, from the stuff they talked about its pretty clear why the cardinals could barely put up with Ryan

I listened to it and I agree. Quite a time, but she doesn't seem to hold a grudge towards him.

if she does, she's not going to be open about it. I'm sure she doesnt need Ryan tweeting about "how she is a huge bitch and how unsuccessful she is."

LOL! Hopefully he doesn’t, since she was/is the last one of The Cardinals still following him on Instagram and responding to his posts.

Would you want to work with Ryan again knowing the way he treats ex band members?

Ok, I should phrased that better. Not you, but a successful musician with many other choices of people to work with, ones who won't stab you in the back once you walk out the door and insult you on twitter.

Re: Cat Popper on Let There Be Talk podcast

Neal worked with Ryan on Ashes and Fire. Cat and him seem to have made amends in recent years - and given how that ended it's pretty amazing she and him got ever to that point.

Neal also said, "I will always have a connection with him. It doesn’t go away just because you don’t play in the same band anymore."

He's also worked with Cindy Cashdollar since the Cardinals blew up.

Not downplaying the crappy things he has said and done to some of the musicians he has worked with. But I wouldn't be surprised if we see Neal and Ryan again in some form, Cat sitting in on something at some point, etc.

I wish he could patch things up with Brad and Graboff.

It would be cool, they made some great music together, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Cat Popper on Let There Be Talk podcast

In fairness, I think a Cardinals reunion could command decent money on festival circuits now.

Seems weird, but they're definitely more appreciated now than they were when they were together, at least in circles outsides of this one. I read a pretty big Phish message board, and Cardinals recordings have gotten insanely popular on there over the past five or six years. I've seen lots of people lamenting they never saw a show and talking about how great they were.

If Ryan's up for it, I'd at least think there's a chance that grudges could be put aside for big paydays.

Personally, I'd obviously love to see it. I loved Prisoner, but all I could think when those shows happened was "man, I'd love to hear the Cardinals play these songs."
