My own suggestion: A band that is NOTHING like RA but for me have always summed up a certain New York vibe. I Love them: Francis and the Lights

Oberst has had accusations thrown against him too.

The only accusation I know about, the accuser eventually made a public statement where she admitted she lied. Are there others?

Daniel Romano. Canadian artist. Started as a country crooner but keeps transforming his sound. Has a couple punk projects too. He is one of the best unknown songwriters around, just amazing. Saw him live twice last month and it was fantastic.

Re: OK, please recommend some alternative music

I dried my tears watching a Chris Isaak show yesterday. It was a decent performance.

Besides that, what's a good Mandy Moore album to start with?

New Cass McCombs album "Tip of the Sphere". Check last track "Rounders" out (YT link) - close your eyes and tell me the first 45 seconds doesn't sound like peak Cardinals

Yeah that's good - thanks for the link! Sleeping Volcanoes, Sidewalk Bop after Suicide, and Rounders are all really great tracks on that album

Anyone here like Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats? I keep meaning to dive in more whenever I see them on one of the late night shows.

I've been listening to Blur a lot lately. If ya really want something Ryan Adams-esque, go for this record by Victor Olston called Heritage. It sounds like The Cardinals, even the voice:

First time I saw him play was in a friends backyard at a party. Our band was supposed to play as well but drummer got shit faced. So it goes. Glad someone from the tristate area is doing well. Lot of good musicians and writers around here but the music scene is nonexistent.

If OP is looking for singer songwriter stuff, canít really go wrong with Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Gram Parsons, Catherine Howe, Mickey Newbury, Townes...many many others.

More newer stuff I enjoy would be things like Sondre Lerche, Lord Huron, and disposable pop music like Dua Lipa.
