So the rumours say. Let's just hope it comes true. I think it's pretty likely but I've been getting my hopes trampled for a Pearl Jam show in NZ since I last saw them play here in '98.

Re: Pearl Jam - Backspacer (Sept 21st)

I hate the production.
Fuck Brendan O'Brien.

The auto-tune, the way that everything sounds very multi-tracked, you can tell this song was built in a studio, not just recorded.

I love the song, though. Which is what pisses me off more, that the cliche' shiny production is ruining a good song. It was better on Conan.

They didn't play this one on Conan.

And Auto-Tune?

Re: Pearl Jam - Backspacer (Sept 21st)

Where did they play it? I swear it was on a late nite show.
Nevermind, after doing reasearch to not look like a dumbass, it was a different song.

It's really subtle, but I swear it's there. Really, really really light.
Either that or Eddie is just singing differently that I'm used to hearing.

Mind you, I was half awake when I wrote that.

Re: Pearl Jam - Backspacer (Sept 21st)

I do admit that I was listening to it trying to imagine what it would sound like live, because I just couldn't really get into it that much.

Their last album was my least favourites of theirs, I never really warmed to it so we'll see with this one. They haven't put out an album that I've really disliked though. I think Vitalogy -> Yield were their best.

They played this at a club in Seattle. They were taping a Target commercial. A fan made recording of it leaked. maybe you heard that.

Not like, T-Pain style, but I swear I heard a little pitch correction.
I hope I'm wrong.

Brendan O'Brien sketches me out.

Re: Pearl Jam - Backspacer (Sept 21st)

I've liked his work until the last couple years. Lately, everything he does is LOOK IT'S BIG AND SHINY!!

He's not a bad producer by any stretch, my preference is just for a more transparent production style.

Re: Pearl Jam - Backspacer (Sept 21st)

The last album I heard him do was Trey Anastasio's Shine.
And before that was probably Yield.

So I'm not familiar.

But pearl Jam being sound fanatics, I'd be surprised if this is compressed to hell and over produced.

Re: Pearl Jam - Backspacer (Sept 21st)

Where's the grunge?

Edit: Agree on the Brendan O'Brien disliking. Springsteen's last two records would be much better without him.

From NME.com. Won't play in my country.

Pearl Jam debut new songs in short documentary

Quote:
Pearl Jam are premiering a new short documentary on the making of their new album 'Backspacer' online now.

Eddie Vedder and co have created a 10-minute film in which they are seen performing three new tracks from their forthcoming album, due out in the US on September 20 and a day later in the UK.

The video, which debuts today (August 17) on MySpace Music, sees the band performing 'Just Breathe', 'Got Some' and the album's lead single 'The Fixer'.

It also shows the band in the studio and wandering around their native Seattle.

Vedder discusses songwriting process, saying it was like "capturing lightning in a bottle… (the songs) were easy to write, lucky for me they were evocative of something right away," he said.

The 'Backspacer Short' can be viewed here: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...h&viewstatus=2

Enjoy it. It should be awesome. I'll have to wait a couple months until I see them, but since I've been waiting since 1998 that doesn't seem so long.
